MasterCard Inc., based in Purchase, has developed a digital platform that delivers coupons to shoppers as they pay for parking. The new process will allow local businesses to target relevant rewards to shoppers as they are on store premises.
A pilot program will be launched in Rockville Center in Nassau County on Oct. 7 with MasterCard integrating its couponing platform with Parkeon terminals for the first time. Parkeon Inc., based in France, which has several regional offices including one in Moorestown, N.J., is a global distributor of parking control equipment.
The partnership will combine MasterCard’s technology, data and network assets with Parkeon’s global distribution infrastructure to bring a more relevant retail experience for customers on the go.
“At MasterCard, we have the opportunity to reinvent and rewire the way people interact with retailers by providing solutions and experiences that work for both the retailer and shopper,” Hany Fam, president of Global Strategic Alliances at MasterCard, said in a written statement.
Parking meters are evolving from a “cash-incentive, low-value transaction industry” to one that is able to “deliver huge commercial benefit to businesses and reward consumers,” said Stéphane Roques, head of parking business at Parkeon, in a written statement.
