Officials at Iona College announced Wednesday the launch of a new cybersecurity concentration within its computer science program.
Nearly every industry benefits from a secure IT infrastructure, officials say. Thus, the New Rochelle-based college plans to begin a new concentration this fall for students pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees in computer science.
“Cybersecurity is one of the most sought-after skills in technology, and the trend is going to continue for the anticipated future,” said Robert Schiaffino,  Iona computer science department chair, in a press release. “Any industry””from retail sales to hospitals to power plants””is dependent on information technology, and cybersecurity is essential to ensuring that IT assets are protected.”
Cybersecurity is among the top 10 fastest growing careers in America, boasting a 27 percent growth rate, according popular news reports.
The most in-demand jobs include application security engineer, network engineer, web analytics developer, vulnerability engineer and Internet security analyst. Â
