Food Bank for Westchester has partnered with the City of Mount Vernon and Mayor Richard Thomas to host a biweekly free Fresh Market for residents. Open to residents of Mount Vernon, the market will offer fresh produce, along with music and other entertainment.
The event will be held at Municipal Lot 11 at East Prospect Avenue and North 3rd Avenue. The market will run from 4 to 6 p.m. every other Friday beginning July 14.
According to the Food Bank, there are 200,000 people who are food insecure across Westchester County. Mount Vernon is the second-largest community within the county that Food Bank for Westchester provides services to year-round, with Yonkers standing as the largest. Those services include food pantries, shelters and mobile food pantry distributions. The organization has also spearheaded a Senior Grocery Program, Back Pack Program and Hot Meal Program within the city.
