Interior designer Cami Weinstein concluded work at Doral Arrowwood in Rye Brook in a whirlwind few months she called “a record-breaking rush.”
The principal of Cami Weinstein Interior Design redesigned the 8,000-square-foot Atrium restaurant and event space over the winter holidays.
The estimated redesign project was $130,000.
“We have a high repeat client base probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 60 to 65 percent,” said Steve Mabus, general manager of Doral Arrowwood. “Some of those clients are coming back in and they”™re saying, ”˜Wow, it looks great,”™ and they appreciate it because they spend a lot of time in the Atrium for meals.”
Weinstein coordinated the purchase of new chairs and selected materials for the chairs, upholstery for banquettes, the wallpaper, window treatments and awning.
She also worked on the tabletop designs.
Next in Doral”™s pending project file is a complete redesign of onsite restaurant The Pub, which Doral has already slated Weinstein to work on.
Â
“The Pub was designed as an English pub when it first opened and it has evolved to more of a sports bar pub and we”™re looking to make it a little more contemporary,” Mabus said. He estimated the space is about 3,500 square feet.
Â
The project is in the conceptual stage and the price was undisclosed.
At Doral, Mabus said “we”™ve seen an increase in occupancy on weekends.”
That could stem from the residential client who is looking for more of a staycation coupled with “the fact that consumers are more careful in their spending and the issues with the airlines have really benefited a full-service resort such as ourselves.”
Mabus said the commercial client is still a strong point for the hotel.
“We actually fared pretty well last year in 2009 and in 2010, things seem to be picking up,” he said. “We”™re getting a lot of interest from the financial markets now, which was really quiet in 2009. Now we”™re having more clients come in for site tours and more contracts are being sent out now. That was one of the reasons why we wanted to get the Atrium done in hopes that when things start to come back, it would be a key feature for our corporate clients.”
Weinstein too has added more commercial clients to her portfolio, including an “office suite for a group of financial guys who are finding their business expanding this year and who are doubling the size of their offices.”
Her work also trickles into Manhattan, where she recently completed a pied-Ã -terre for a client in the music industry who wanted to convert a residential unit into a live-work studio.
Prior to beginning Cami Weinstein Interior Design, Weinstein worked in the arts and advertising industries.
“After having my children, I decided to work in a field where I could work from home, so in the beginning I kind of grew my business slowly,” she said. “As they got older, I kept expanding.”
