The Westchester Children’s Museum in Rye recently received a $25,000 grant to build a learning laboratory called “Toddler Beach.”
The donation comes from the Westchester Association for the Education of Young Children and will fund the construction of a beach-themed learning laboratory at Rye Playland. The exhibit will be tailored to children two years and younger and feature interactive sailboat, lighthouse and beach cottage models and include foam dunes and sand castle blocks.
The museum has been running a campaign to raise $10 million within the next two years to support the construction of a physical space for its museum, which has been operating its education outreach programs through schools and other venues across Westchester. Funding for the campaign so far has helped the museum develop architectural plans and exhibit designs for its future brick-and-mortar location on Rye Playland’s boardwalk set to open in 2015.
