Tanks being sent to Ukraine:Â President Biden announced at the White House that the U.S. will go ahead and ship 31 Abrams tanks to Ukraine for it to use in the war that Russia started when it invaded almost a year ago. Germany has now agreed to send 14 of its Leopard tanks to Ukraine and Spain announced plans to send some tanks. Norway, Poland and Finland also plan to send tanks. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said speed in getting the tanks to his country, speed in training Ukraine’s military on their maintenance and operation and receiving enough tanks are vital for pushing back the Russians.
High-rise fire in Chicago:Â More than 300 firefighters and emergency workers responded to a high-rise fire in Chicago that killed one person and left at least eight badly injured. The fire began on the 15th floor and spread upward to the 24th floor. The fire was in a building known as The Kenwood on Chicago’s south side.
Trump going back on social media:Â Meta Platforms, which owns Facebook and Instagram, says it will allow Donald Trump to go back on those services. Trump’s accounts were suspended after the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. Nick Clegg, Meta’s president for global affairs said the company believes Trump’s threat to public safety has receded but it would again suspend him from Facebook and Instagram if he violates policies regarding content.
Tesla financials:Â Tesla reports revenues of $81.5 billion for 2022, with net income of $12.6 billion.The company said that revenues were up 51% from the previous year and net income more than doubled. Automotive sales totaled $71.5 billion with a gross profit of $20.3 billion. Tesla said it delivered a record 1.31 million vehicles in 2022.
IBM financials:Â IBM, headquartered in Armonk, reports 2022 revenues of $60.5 billion. It said it generated net income of $2.7 billion for the year. The company also said it plans to lay off about 3,900 employees. It has a global total of about 250,000 employees.
School administrators were warned about gun:Â An attorney for Newport News, Virginia, elementary school teacher Abby Zwerner says that school administrators were warned that the six-year-old boy alleged to have shot Zwerner had a gun. Attorney Diane Toscano says that they were warned at least three times that the child had brought a gun to Richneck Elementary School but they failed to act. The elementary school’s assistant principal has resigned and the school board voted to accept a separation agreement ending the employment of the school system’s superintendent.
