The Westchester Broadway Theatre in Elmsford has turned one of its spotlights on hunger in the county. It has a longtime association with food, being founded in 1974 as An Evening Dinner Theatre by co-owners Robert Funking and Bill Stutler. Their operation brought the dinner theatre concept to Westchester. Since the opening of its current show, “Sister Act,” the theater has been working with three nonprofits on a food drive.
A collection point has been set up in the lobby where the public as well as theatergoers are invited to drop off canned and boxed food. The organizations, St. Bartholomew”™s Soup Kitchen, Westchester Lifting Up and Our Lady of Mount Carmel”™s Food Pantry feed the homeless and provide food for people in need.
The food drive will continue through June 15. Among the requested items are canned soups, canned vegetables, boxes of pasta, coffee and tea.
