A Ph.D. candidate in New York Medical College”™s Department of Pharmacology has been awarded a fellowship from the National Institutes of Health. A bit more than $61,000 will support research being done by Amanda Soler involving arterial stiffness, blood pressure and metabolic syndrome. The award carries the lengthy title “The Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award Individual Predoctoral Fellowship to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research” and comes from NIH”™s National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute.
Soler has been at the college since August 2014. She has been researching various aspects of hypertension (high blood pressure), an increasingly common medical issue in the U.S. Soler has made presentations on her research at meetings of the American Heart Association”™s Council on Hypertension.
