Orange County Airport will receive $6,866,280 in federal funding to build a new runway and taxiway and mitigate pollution.Â
The funds, granted through the Airport Improvement Program and administered by the U.S. Department of Transportation”™s Federal Aviation Administration, will also allow the Montgomery-based airport to handle increased air traffic and enhance the local economy.
“Investing in our airport”™s infrastructure enables safer, more efficient service for the businesses and travelers who utilize it every day,” said Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, New York’s junior Democratic senator.
The Airport Improvement Program provides grants to public agencies for the planning and development of public-use airports that are included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems. Funds are drawn from the Airport and Airway Trust fund, which is supported by user fees, fuel taxes, and other revenue sources.
