Charles J. Newman and Alan D. Scheinkman were honored by the Westchester County Bar Foundation at its annual benefit held at the Coveleigh Club in Rye. Sheinkman is administrative judge for New York”™s Ninth Judicial District and has jurisdiction over most of the lower Hudson Valley. Newman is principal of Charles J. Newman Co. LLC, an insurance agency based in Peekskill, and has been a longtime supporter of the foundation.
Anthony Enea, president of the foundation, is a partner in White Plains law firm Enea, Scanlan & Sirignano LLP. He said the benefit was a notable success in generating the money needed for a two-year fellowship.
The fellowship program allows the foundation to finance the salary of a newly admitted public interest attorney selected by the group. The attorney is placed with a local nonprofit that provides legal services to underprivileged and indigent individuals and families in Westchester. The services are most commonly provided in immigration, employment, family and landlord-tenant law.
Selected for the newest fellowship is Luis Leon who will be working with the Westchester Hispanic Coalition. A graduate of the Elizabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University in White Plains, Leon is the sixth beneficiary of the fellowship award.
