The Music Conservatory of Westchester will be turning one wall of its building on Central Avenue in White Plains into a mural representing the theme “Multicultural Music.” However, precisely what will be depicted remains to be seen.
Students in grades 7 through 12 who live in Westchester are invited to submit their designs for the mural in a contest the conservatory is staging ”“ the Colors of Music Student Mural Contest.
One winner and three runners-up will be selected by a panel of experts, including Janet Langsam, CEO of Arts Westchester, Lynn Honeysett, executive director of the Pelham Art Center, Samantha De Tillio, assistant curator of the Museum of Arts and Design in Manhattan, and Margaret Adasko, curator of education at the Katonah Museum of Art.
The winner will get together with Jonathan Villoch, a Cuban-American artist originally from Miami Beach, to create the final mural. Villoch has created wall murals around the country.
The top four student designs will be incorporated into the mural as well as displayed inside the Music Conservatory”™s building. Details on the contest page at musicconservatory.org.
