A 500-kilowatt solar project installation at the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System hospital in Montrose is finished and ready to save the hospital close to $100,000 a year, according to an announcement from Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office.
The veterans hospital on Albany Post Road received $358,000 from Cuomo”™s $1 billion NY-Sun initiative to support the installation of the solar array on the hospital’s carports and buildings.
“This solar project will allow the VA to care for our veterans while cutting costs and protecting the environment,” Cuomo said.
Earlier this month, the state Public Service Commission enacted a Clean Energy Standard, which mandates that the state receives 50 percent of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. The state has increased solar capacity by 600 percent over the last four years, according to the announcement.
The solar project at the Montrose VA hospital, developed by Michigan-based J. Ranck Electric Inc., is expected to save the hospital $96,000 a year in energy costs and $1.9 million over the next 20 years.
