The Boys & Girls Club of Stamford will launch a “Key to Success” program at two Stamford middle schools, thanks to a $75,000 donation from KeyBank Foundation. The program aims to improve academic performance over a three-year period at Cloonan and Rippowam Middle Schools.
School attendance, quarterly report cards, involvement in clubs and attendance at summer camps will be tracked in the expectation that students will demonstrate improved academic performance, will be better prepared for success in high school and will improve their social and emotional skills.
Activities will emphasize homework, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), writing, history, other schoolwork and even games that teach thoughtfulness and strategy such as chess. There also will be character and leadership development programs.
“One of Key”™s philanthropic funding priorities is education ”” with particular focus on supporting programs that drive student academic performance and successful graduation rates in disadvantaged populations,” said Bruce Rogers, regional director for Key Insurance and Benefits Services and longtime club board member.
