Trumbull-based The Kennedy Center will be honoring the agency”™s president and CEO at its Four Seasons Ball Crystal Gala on Nov. 4 at Rolling Hills Country Club, 333 Hurlbutt St., Wilton. Martin D. Schwartz, who is retiring in January 2018, will be honored for his more than 39 years of advocacy and leadership in support of people with disabilities. Tickets are $200.
Schwartz became president and CEO of The Kennedy Center in 1978. The organization had been founded in 1951 by its namesake Evelyn Kennedy and 12 parents. In the early years, when it served fewer than 200 adults with intellectual disabilities, it had a staff of 48 and an annual budget of $776,000. It now serves more than 2,000 clients, has a staff of more than 750 and operates with an annual budget of $32 million.
