Invaluable community health services
After being hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health Center has proved more indispensable to the community and its estimated 20,000 patients than ever before. Judith M. Watson and other members of the senior leadership team for the organization contracted the virus and had to be furloughed and quarantined, and three long-time employees were lost to the virus.
The health center remained open and accessible throughout the pandemic, establishing a walk-up Covid testing facility in Mount Vernon, offering meals and food in collaboration with Feeding Westchester and even absorbing some patients from larger health care providers around the county. As always, patients at the health center are seen regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay.
