Fairfield County”™s Community Foundation (FCCF) announced March 6 that Giving Day 2018, which took place on March 1, raised $1,400,887 from 13,137 donors. The all-day fundraiser began at noon and ran until 11:59 p.m. In the first two minutes, more than $20,000 was raised online.
While the event had the backing of corporate sponsors, the thrust was to encourage donations from individuals. People were able to donate $10 or more to their favorite local cause through the website fcgives.org.
“When you can raise over $1 million in 24 hours for area nonprofits, it is a very good day,” said Juanita James, CEO of FCCF. The organization notes that Giving Day has been the vehicle for raising nearly $6 million for more than 746 nonprofits since it began five years ago. Lead sponsor has been Bank of America.
Nonprofits were able to receive help from FCCF to increase awareness of their organizations. The foundation offered a resource center complete with a toolkit, instruction videos and online guidance.
