Bankwell has a program called Bankwell for Good that is designed to help boost community service organizations. As part of the program, each year a Bankwell employee is recognized for leadership, teamwork and dedication to community service. Employee Mary Ammon received the honor for her work during 2017 with Stamford-based nonprofit Inspirica. The bank donated $2,500 to Inspirica.
Inspirica is one of the largest providers of services to the homeless in Fairfield County. The organization addresses both the physical aspect of homelessness by providing housing resources and its underlying root causes through help with employment, education and health care among other issues.
The bank provides support to more than 200 organizations throughout Connecticut. For example, through Feb. 28, it is conducting its Give Well Food Drive at bank branches in Norwalk, New Canaan, Wilton, Fairfield and Stamford. Canned and packaged foods may be dropped off to help the Open Door Shelter Food Pantry restock its shelves.
