Gas prices across the country continue to trend higher, although prices in Connecticut and New York are below the national average.
According to AAA, the current average for a gallon of regular gas is $3.676. Today”™s price is up from last week”™s average of $3.608 and last month”™s $3.449, but it is below the $4.087 average price from one year ago at this time.
In Connecticut, the average price as of this morning is $3.523 ”“ this is the highest price for the New England states. Within the state, Fairfield County had the second highest average price at $3.565, with Windham County averaging the highest at $3.577.
In New York, the average price as of this morning is $3.628. Within the Hudson Valley region, Rockland County had the highest average at $3.750 while Sullivan County had the lowest at $3.600.
“When the cost of crude oil crosses the $80 a barrel mark, that puts a lot of upward pressure on what we pay at the pump,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson, “and as long as oil costs remain at the current level, drivers will likely see incremental price increases for now.”
Among the states, California had the highest average at $4.915 and Mississippi had the lowest at $3.167.
