It’s going to cost a little bit more to get into the city next spring.
The Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) unveiled a series of fare and toll increases that it says will provide much needed revenue. The increases will go into effect March 1, 2013.
A monthly pass from White Plains to Grand Central Station would increase about $20 a month to $249, while a weekly pass would increase $6.50.
“Costs that the MTA does not exercise control over, namely those for debt service, pensions, energy, paratransit, and employee and retiree health care, continue to increase beyond the rate of inflation,” said MTA Chairman and CEO Joseph J. Lhota in a press release.
Subway and bus fares will also increase.
The fare hike still has to be approved by the MTA board at a meeting Dec. 19. Public hearings will be held throughout the metro area, including one at the Yonkers Public Library Nov. 15 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
