A former New York state transportation commissioner, Thomas J. Madison, has been picked by Gov. Cuomo to serve as executive director of the New York State Thruway Authority.
He will replace Michael Fleischer, who resigned in early August after eight years in the Thruway post. Madison”™s appointment must be confirmed by the state Senate.
The governor”™s choice currently is vice president and director of transportation policy at STV Group Inc., a consulting firm based in New York City and Pennsylvania that specializes in design services and construction management for transportation systems and infrastructure projects.
Madison was federal highway administrator at the U.S. Department of Transportation from 2008 to 2009. He served under former Gov. George Pataki as commissioner of the state Department of Transportation from 2005 to 2007. He also held positions in the Pataki administration as deputy secretary for transportation, director of state and local government affairs and deputy appointments director.
