Startup entrepreneurs will compete for a $10,000 cash award on Tuesday at the Westchester County Association”™s second business pitch competition this year.
Pitch Night, part of the WCA”™s Year of Innovation series of programs in Westchester, will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Reckson Metro Center at 360 Hamilton Ave. in White Plains. WCA officials said early-stage companies ready to take their ideas to the next level were invited to participate in the contest, which is designed to accelerate startup creation in the county. Entrepreneurs have a maximum five minutes to pitch their business ideas to a panel of judges.
The WCA said it also will hear pitches from young entrepreneurs from the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship, an organization that provides programs intended to inspire young people from low-income communities to stay in school, recognize business opportunities and plan for successful futures.
One of the evening”™s judges, Christina Bechhold, co-founder and managing director of Empire Angels, a New York City angel investment group, and a regular contributor to the Wall Street Journal startup blog The Accelerators, will speak to the contest audience on what startups need to do to succeed.
Other judges for the pitch contest are Andrew Ackerman, managing director of  DreamIt Ventures; Jeffrey Borenstein, consultant at The Small Business Oracle; John Cohn, managing director of Diamond Capital Advisors; Stanley Freimuth, CEO of Debt Resolve; and John Ritacco, president of CMS Bank.
Tickets are $20 per person and may be purchased online.
