Furniture City finds room to grow in Yonkers
Furniture City has relocated from Pelham to a 9,600-square-foot showroom at 1966 Central Park Ave. in Yonkers.
Curco-Jamale Properties in Yonkers and New Canaan, Conn., owners of other Yonkers businesses Curto”™s Inc. and Yonkers Tennis Center, is the landlord.
Furniture City “found a great opportunity to expand in our local Yonkers market,” Gary Curto, president of Curco-Jamale Properties, said in written statement.
He said the move indicates deals are still being done despite the down economy and the vacancies that still line the Central Avenue corridor.
Myong Gourmet moves, expands
Myong Gourmet has relocated and opened a storefront in Mount Kisco nearly triple the size of its former location.
The 3,400-square-foot space at 487 Main St., formerly occupied by Q Barbeque, features casual gourmet dining with bold international flavors, a full liquor license and wait-staff service at lunch.
The former Myong Private Label Gourmet was in the Mount Kisco Square Shopping Center and opened five years ago.
The construction costs at the new site were approximately $200,000, said Rob Feiner, president.
Jonathan Gordon, president of Bronxville-based Admiral Real Estate Services Corp., handled the lease negotiations.
Border”™s to close more stores
Border”™s Group Inc., after filing for bankruptcy protection last month in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York, was granted a 90-day extension to determine how many additional stores it plans to close throughout the reorganization process.
Border”™s Group recently announced the closure of about 26 additional stores, none of which are in New York.
Of the 200 stores that were announced for closure last month, ones in Wappingers Falls and Scarsdale were on the list; Border”™s also has a store in Mount Kisco, but that has not been slated for closure at this time.
A majority of the stores are expected to be closed by the end of April with several scheduled to shutter by the end of May.
According to the bankruptcy petition, Borders Group has 642 stores under the Borders, Waldenbooks, Borders Express and Borders Outlet names.
