The Connecticut members of the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) union who went on an 11-day strike against Stop & Shop have voted to ratify a three-year contract with the supermarket chain.
Members of UFCW Local 919 gave their approval last night via a unanimous voice vote during a meeting in New Haven, while UFCW Local 371 members followed suit shortly after during their meeting in Southbury.
The union claimed victory in achieving three of its stated goals related to the workers”™ health care, pension, and Sunday time-and-a-half pay. The new contract also includes a pay increase: full-time workers hired before April 19, 2016, who are at the top of their pay scales will now receive wage increases of $25 per week for 2019, $20 per week for 2020 and $25 per week in 2021.
For employees hired on or after April 19, 2016, the wage increases are $15 per week, a $1,250 bonus, and $15 per week again in 2019, 2020 and 2021. Employees also receive retroactive pay for the period when their original contract ended on Feb. 24 until the ratification of the new contract.
