“Red, White & Chew” is more than a patriotic play on words.
For veterans and their families, the phrase will spell out serious savings when dining in-county through a promotion designed by the Westchester County Tourism Office, Westchester Restaurant Association and the Westchester County Veterans Service Agency.
From Nov. 6 to Nov. 15, the campaign will offer dining, lodging and attraction discounts for individuals who have served the nation.
So far, about 22 restaurants across the county are slated to participate, says Kim Sinistore, director of county tourism.
Participants will feature a large, tourism office-designed “Red, White & Chew” logo in store windows.
Behind the promotion was the desire to further drive business to and interest in Westchester”™s culinary and hospitality industries.
“From what I”™ve heard, certain times of the year can be slow times,” Sinistore said. “We have a promotion in March with Hudson Valley Restaurant Week and we have about 50 to 60 restaurants participating in that. This is a little more localized and we”™re trying to tie in the weekends and ask hotels for promotions that can tie-in.”
The county tourism office partnered with the Westchester Hotel Association during the spring for a “Fit and Active” package encouraging bikers and walkers to take it to the county trails ”“ and to stay in a hotel while they”™re at it ”“ on “Bicycle Sundays.”
Participating “Red, White & Chew” restaurants can select the percentage discount provided to diners.
