DeCicco Family Markets in the Chester Heights section of Eastchester will close by the end of July, according to media reports and the Bronxville Chamber of Commerce.
DeCicco”™s will continue to run its stores in Brewster, at about 33,000 square feet its largest, and in Armonk, Harrison and Ardsley. It had operated in Chester Heights for 27 years.
“Residents of Chester Heights, the Eastchester neighborhood on the edge of Bronxville, are in a tizzy upon learning of the impending closing of their beloved local supermarket, DeCicco,” said Susan Miele, Bronxville Chamber of Commerce executive director, in a prepared statement.
Miele called the store “a stalwart on New Rochelle Road,” but noted:
“Recent arrivals of the likes of Fairway in Pelham, Fresh Market in Eastchester, Whole Foods in Ridge Hill, and an expansive ShopRite in New Rochelle have added to the competition that had already existed from yet other neighboring supermarkets, thus detracting would-be shoppers from their friendly neighborhood grocer.”
The chamber reported a CVS is headed for the 7,500-square-foot store footprint. The small commercial district that CVS will anchor is accessible directly from the Cross County Parkway”™s eastbound side and is convenient to Bronxville, Pelham and New Rochelle.
Media reports state all 60 DeCicco employees in Chester Heights have found jobs in the remaining family-owned stores.
