Prudential Holmes & Kennedy Real Estate plans to host an open house this month at its recently restored flagship office in Chappaqua.
Antiques appraiser and historian Ruth Taylor, owner of Mostly Memories, an estate sales business in Ardsley, will give free evaluations of guests”™ antiques at the open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 26 in the real estate office at 101 King St. in Chappaqua.
Renovations to the historic downtown building included leveling crooked floors and doorways, lifting ceilings that were originally less than six-feet high and exposing original hardwood beams on its vintage fireplace.
William B. Holmes, the realty company”™s broker-owner and CEO, opened the business at the King Street landmark in Chappaqua in 1968. Holmes opened offices in Pleasantville in 1986 and in Armonk in 1994. In 2004, Holmes & Kennedy affiliated with Prudential Real Estate and added offices in Katonah and Somers. The company opened a Bedford office in early 2007.
Holmes in a prepared statement said the flagship office “is an intrinsic part of Chappaqua”™s history and has been marvelous for us for all these years. But time was taking its toll, so we are delighted that we were able to update our usable space, while retaining the character of this beautiful antique building and maintaining the history of picturesque, downtown Chappaqua.”
Sesame Street”™s Elmo also is expected to drop in at the open house.
