The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department has started looking for a new home after engineers confirmed the current building is sinking into the ground.
According to a News 12 Westchester report, the building ”“ which also houses the Poughkeepsie Town Court and the Parks Department ”“ was originally a warehouse that was built decades ago on the site of a former landfill. Police Chief Joseph Cavaliere complained that the building is slowly falling apart, noting that “the floor comes down and the walls are pulling from it.”
Town officials are scouting new properties for the police department, but for Cavaliere the relocation cannot come soon enough.
“Financially, it”™s a waste of taxpayers’ money to continue to repair this building and bring it up,” he said. “This building was never intended to be a police station. It doesn”™t meet the standards of a police department.”
