Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter Paul Simon is selling his New Canaan estate for $13.9 million, a $2.6 million drop from its 2002 purchase price of $16.5 million.
The property at 82 Brookwood Lane was bought 17 years ago by Simon and his wife, singer-songwriter Edie Brickell. The estate covers 32 acres and the main house is 1930s-era structure spanning 8,500 square feet with six bedrooms. An adjacent cottage has two bedrooms and a recording studio, and there is also a three-car garage, walled gardens and a courtyard. A 7-foot-tall barbed wire fence surrounds the estate.
During their years in New Canaan, Simon and Brickell rarely opened their home to the wider world, with a notable exception in May 2004 for a fundraising event to benefit John Kerry”™s campaign for the U.S. presidency. In April 2014, the home was the center of media attention when police arrived in response to a domestic dispute call that ended with the couple being arrested on disorderly conduct charges; the charges were dropped two months later.
