The town of Greenburgh has purchased a former waterwheel property in Ardsley and is turning it into affordable housing.
The town”™s purchase of the foreclosed waterwheel property was approved by the Board of Legislators for $1.2 million. The town plans to build 22 units of affordable housing, with five of the units being offered to Ardsley Volunteer Firefighters and members of the Ambulance Corp.
The Ardsley planning board and zoning board have approved the plans. Another affordable housing project, Westhab, located on Tarrytown Road in Greenburgh, anticipates construction of 28 affordable units by next summer, with applications being taken in March 2013.
“There is obviously a need for affordable housing,” Supervisor Paul Feiner said in an email. “It’s our hope that both workforce/affordable housing initiatives will be attractive assets in our community.”
