The Greenburgh town board unanimously approved a resolution to sell the Waterwheel property on Saw Mill River Road in Ardsley to developers looking to build affordable housing.
Ardsley Waterwheel Partners L.L.C. is purchasing the property from the town for $1.21 million with plans to build a 22-unit complex featuring affordable condominiums and workforce housing. Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner said five of the workforce housing units would be set aside for firefighters.
The town expects to close the deal in a few weeks. Greenburgh acquired the property when it went into foreclosure in 2006, owing $180,000 in unpaid taxes. The property has gone unused since 1992.
The affordable housing units will be listed for $200,000, while workforce housing will be listed for around $350,000.
I grew up in Dobbs Ferry, and remember fondly the Waterwheel.
Although the food was ordinary, the roll-back roof was something special.
