The financial editor of NBC”™s “Today” show Jean Chatzky told the audience at the United Way”™s Women”™s Leadership Council”™s breakfast that women were doing better financially, but the wage gap between men and women is not forecasted to close for 100 years.
“We are still the caregivers ”“ at a cost in lost wages, pensions and Social Security credits of more than $300,000 per person on average,”™”™ said Chatzky, founder and CEO of HerMoney.com.
She was the special guest at the United Way of Westchester and Putnam”™s annual Take a Walk in Her Shoes Celebration of Women in Philanthropy on Dec. 10. The program raises money for women and children living on the financial edge in Westchester and Putnam counties.
This year”™s program honored Jean Marie Connolly of Altium Wealth with the 2019 Woman of Distinction Award.
Proceeds from the breakfast go to support UWWP”™s Teach Me to Fish program, which provides job skills training and support for the chronically unemployed, and ALICE $ense, which helps families build personal savings and better manage spending to achieve long-term financial stability.
