Charles V. Firlotte, former long-time president and CEO of Aquarion Water Company of Bridgeport, has been appointed chairman of the Board of Directors at NB Power Corporation of New Brunswick, Canada, the primary electric utility for that province. Firlotte has been a company board member since 2014.
While leading Aquarion, Firlotte also was actively engaged in supporting the state”™s economic well-being through membership on the executive committee of the Connecticut Business and Industry Association”™s (CBIA) Board of Directors. Additionally, he had a lengthy term on the Bridgeport Regional Business Council Board of Directors and was its chairman for two years. For the past six years, he has served on Sacred Heart University”™s board of trustees.
Firlotte is principal of Laurent Maxime Consultancy of Shelton, providing management consulting services dedicated to helping businesses thrive. Throughout his career, he has guided companies in environmental, energy and utility-service industries in the U.S.; Canada; the United Kingdom; China; and Turks and Caicos, British West Indies.
“I am honored to chair the board of directors as we lead NB Power through a transformational change in the way it does business,” said Firlotte. “Globally, utilities have an obligation to minimize their carbon footprint through greater utilization of renewable energy. My experience at Aquarion taught me that environmental stewardship is a critical and constant responsibility for every utility leader, so that will be a primary focus of mine at NB Power.”
Firlotte earned an undergraduate degree from St. Thomas University in New Brunswick. He holds a graduate degree from the University of Ottawa, Canada, and is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program, Harvard Business School.
