Grace Church Community Center, a 36-year old nonsectarian social services nonprofit, has changed its name to Lifting up Westchester: Where Hope Takes Flight ”“ One Person at a Time.
Board member Linda Gallo, who led the rebranding initiative, said the change will better reflect the identity of the White Plains-based nonprofit. “The prevailing perception of the organization as a church and/or community center is inaccurate,” she said.
The organization will continue its mission of providing food, shelter and support to nearly 4,000 individuals a year.
“For 36 years we have been a hidden gem in this county,” Executive Director Paul Anderson-Winchell said. “A more identifiable name is integral to increasing our impact in Westchester. That said, our mission remains intact: to restore hope to our neighbors in need.”
Lifting up Westchester offers services for the 2,000 homeless in the county, including free weekday and holiday meals, women”™s and men”™s shelters and housing services to prevent eviction and homelessness.
For disadvantaged and homeless youths in the county, the nonprofit offers five weeks of summer day camp, an after-school mentoring program and college scholarships.
Lifting up Westchester”™s Neighbors Home Care Services, a licensed home health care services agency, offers quality home care to more than 400 homebound seniors and disabled individuals annually.
In addition to the new name, tagline and logo, a yearlong marketing program is underway with multiple public events to showcase the services provided by the organization in an effort to drive awareness, increased donations and volunteers.
The organization unveiled its new brand identity at its Oasis of Hope spring gala at Leewood Golf Club in Eastchester on April 17. A communitywide celebration is slated for late spring.
