The nonprofit Newtown Forest Association (NFA) is in the midst of a fundraising effort to acquire Deep Brook Farm, a 63-acre parcel in Newtown with origins dating back to the 1850s.
In a social media posting, the NFA stated Deep Brook Farm was a “collection of meadows, wetlands, and forest with potential for high density development adjacent to the borough.” The NFA voiced it opposition to selling the land for commercial entities, claiming it would lead to “the permanent loss of nearby dirt roads, impact to the Deep Brook watershed, along with an increased tax burden for all residents.”
The NFA has already raised over $600,000 towards its goal of $1.8 million. The property is owned by the estate of the late Dr. Thomas Draper’s estate, and the organization is accepting donations through its website, although it did not state if there was deadline to meet its fundraising goal.
