Head of HuffPost bids students well
Internet entrepreneur and digital mogul Arianna Huffington shared her personal story with a group of Sarah Lawrence College graduates at the school”™s 83rd commencement ceremony May 20 in Yonkers.
“My second book was rejected by 37 publishers,” she said in her speech. “Now, by about rejection 25, you might have thought I might have said, ”˜You know what, there”™s something wrong here, maybe I should be looking at a different career.”™ Instead, I remember walking down St. James Street in London, really depressed and seeing Barclay”™s Bank there. So, I walked in, and with a lot of chutzpah and just about nothing else, I asked the manager for a loan. For some reason, he gave it to me.”
The loan bought her some time ”“ and fortitude through 13 more rejections ”“ until her book was finally published.
“Very often the difference between success and failure is just perseverance,” said the founder of Internet publishing company The Huffington Post.
