New York Life Foundation, the grant-giving arm of Manhattan-based New York Life Insurance Co., will provide more than $410,000 to six Westchester nonprofits that focus on youth education. The foundation has funded a total of $2.5 million to county nonprofits since 2004 when New York Life’s Westchester campus opened.
The grant recipients and their funding are:
Girls Inc. of Westchester in White Plains – $80,000 for the Speaking for Ourselves pilot program for middle and high school girls in New Rochelle. The program helps girls navigate topics including self-image, relational violence, careers and financing. This is part of a multi-year grant totaling $220,000.
Girl Scouts of the Heart of Hudson Inc. in Pleasantville – $50,000 donated to the Career Success program for 650 at-risk middle school girls in Mount Vernon, Port Chester and Yonkers.
JCY-Westchester Community Partners in Yonkers – $80,000 for the expansion and replication of Intro2America, an early intervention program focused on immigrant high school students who face challenges with a language barrier. This is part of a multi-year grant totaling $300,000.
Project Morry in Elmsford –Â $50,000 for their post grad high school program focused on life skills, SAT and college preparation, resume writing, public speaking, time management and financial planning for at-risk high school students from Elmsford and Port Chester. This is part of a multi-year grant totaling $100,000.
The Youth Shelter Program of Westchester – $50,000 for the Safe Alternatives for Youth Project. This project gives men ages 16 to 21, who have been incarcerated in Westchester County’s criminal courts, an alternative housing option.
Yonkers Partners in Education – $100,000 for the College and Career Access Center in Groton High School and Getting Prepared for Success program in nine middle schools. This grant is part of a multi-year fund totaling $300,000.
