Fairfield County”™s Community Foundation”™s (FCCF) announced barrier-breaking ballet dancer Misty Copeland will be the keynote speaker of its 25th annual Fund for Women & Girls event, which will be held April 27 at the Greenwich Hyatt.

Copeland is the first Black woman to be promoted to Principal Dancer in the 75-year history of American Ballet Theatre. She has performed some of the most iconic classical ballet roles, including Odette/Odile in “Swan Lake,” Juliet in “Romeo & Juliet” and the title roles in “Giselle” and “Firebird.” She is the 2021 recipient of the Spingarn Medal, the NAACP”™s highest honor, and authored several books including the autobiographical best-seller “Life In Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina.”
“This year”™s event theme ”“ Change in Motion ”“ not only embodies Misty Copeland and her extraordinary career, but it also exemplifies this evolutionary moment for our organization as we commit to advancing racial equity in the region,” said Fairfield County”™s Community Foundation President and CEO Mendi Blue Paca. “Breaking glass ceilings, confronting biases, challenging expectations of what it means to be a woman or a person of color, while opening doors and increasing access to opportunities for all young people ”“ this is what we strive to do as a Community Foundation, and this is what Misty Copeland has done throughout her life.”
