Congresswoman Nita M. Lowey, D-N.Y., announced Tuesday that two Westchester cultural institutions will receive $69,000 in National Endowment for the Humanities grants.
Jacob Burn Film Center, Inc. in Pleasantville will receive a $39,759 grant and Historic Hudson Valley in Pocantico Hills will receive $30,000.
Jacob Burns Film Center will use the funds to develop a curriculum in collaboration with the Brooklyn Historical Society to help eighth-grade students connect the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s to civil rights movements today through the study of primary source materials and media creation.
The film center is a nonprofit that develops programs that provide instruction and inspiration in media and communication.
Historic Hudson Valley will use the funding to support “Historic Hudson Valley: Washington Irving and the Art of Storytelling,” and fund research and workshops exploring the stories and life of the author Washington Irving. Historic Hudson Valley is a nonprofit education organization that celebrates historic landmarks of national significance in the region.
