Heineken USA Inc. announced this week it has joined The Recycling Partnership, a Virginia nonprofit that works to promote recycling in U.S. communities.
White Plains-based Heineken USA, now the first alcohol company to join the organization, will provide the The Recycling Partnership with experts to improve consumer education and increase the curbside collection of recyclable glass in U.S. communities.
Heineken USA Chief Corporate Relations Officer Tara Rush said the partnership aligns with its Brewing a Better World program, which focuses on CO2 emissions reduction and other community and sustainable partnerships.
“Educating consumers and working with communities to support recycling is critical to our Brewing a Better World strategy,” Rush said. “We are confident that our collaboration with The Recycling Partnership will help us to create a positive and lasting impact on the environment.”
The Recycling Partnership, based in Falls Church, Va., has recycling programs in 71 communities, reaching more than 1.2 million households. Officials say its 10-year goal is to reach 10 million households and divert more than 4 million tons of packaging from landfills in 200 U.S. communities.
“Welcoming Heineken USA to our strong network of partners and sponsors will accelerate our efforts to improve the recycling infrastructure and address glass recycling opportunities,” said Keefe Harrison, executive director of The Recycling Partnership.
Heineken USA, a subsidiary of Dutch brewer Heineken International NV, is headquartered at 360 Hamilton Avenue in White Plains. The company sells Heineken, Amstel Light, Newcastle Brown Ale, Dos Equis and Strongbow Hard Apple Ciders.
