United Way of Coastal and Western Connecticut (UWCWC) in Danbury recently hosted its annual Day of Action, mobilizing more than 400 volunteers to participate in community service projects across Greater Bridgeport, Greater Norwalk, Stamford, northern Fairfield County and southern Litchfield County. This year’s event marked another successful chapter in a long-standing tradition that continues to strengthen communities through the spirit of volunteerism.
Originally known as the “Day of Caring,” this tradition began at United Way of Coastal and western Connecticut in 1994 with a mission to spread the value of volunteerism while increasing awareness of local human service agencies. Today, Day of Action bridges the gap between donors and other nonprofit agencies by demonstrating the difference that an entire day of volunteerism can make in communities.
Volunteers from 20 corporate partners contributed their time and efforts at 22 different sites for nonprofit agency partners. Their collective work underscored the power of community collaboration and the meaningful change that can be achieved when people are united in purpose.
“Giving back to our community means a great deal to M&T Bank. For me, it’s really having our employees find something they’re passionate about, engaging in the communities to give back. The energy around that and the feeling that people have when they do it is just something to be very, very proud of,” said Frank Micalizzi, head of Connecticut Commercial Banking & Bridgeport Regional President at M&T Bank.
“Newtown Savings Bank has a long history of community involvement. Being able to serve our community by giving back and touching the lives of those closest to us within our footprint means so much to us,” said Rhonda Thompson, Newtown Savings Bank.
“It’s very important for us at Union Savings Bank to give back to the community, and participating in Day of Action helps us to do that. It’s a sensation of gratitude and appreciation for us to be able to do for others,” said Darlenny Cuicas, Union Savings Bank.
Together, the volunteers demonstrated the remarkable impact that a united community can make.
