Sacred Heart University has announced plans for a legislator-in-residence program featuring two local lawmakers conducting a series of meetings with faculty, students and the wider community.
The program, which debuts in the fall and is sponsored by the university”™s Institute for Public Policy, will begin with state Sen. Tony Hwang and state Rep. Cristin McCarthy Vahey, both representing the town of Fairfield. The lawmakers will spend two days on campus in policy forums, classroom visits and other events that offer insight on the state”™s legislative process.
“It”™s important to inspire young people to pursue public office,” said Lesley DeNardis, executive director of the institute. “Public service is a noble calling. I still believe that today.”
