(GSHH) in Montgomery, New York, recognized 65 members of the 2024 Girl Scout Gold Award class who earned the highest award in Girl Scouting, the Gold Award for their efforts in making positive impacts on local communities by addressing some of the most pressing issues,
Gold Award Girl Scouts become innovative problem-solvers, empathetic leaders, confident public speakers and focused project managers. They learn resourcefulness, tenacity and decision-making skills, giving them an edge personally and professionally. As they take action to transform their communities, Gold Award Girl Scouts gain tangible skills and prove they are the leaders our world needs. The 2024 Gold Award Girl Scout class identified issues in their communities, took action and found or created solutions to earn their Gold Awards, addressing real-life problems.
Helen Wronski, GSHH’s interim CEO, said, “With the completion of their Gold Awards, these 65 Girl Scouts join the legacy of Girl Scout change makers and have positioned themselves as leaders among their peers. To earn the award, Girl Scouts must research and select a project that is important to them, create a budget and fundraise for the materials to complete their projects, and work with adults in their community to create a lasting and sustainable impact with their projects. This experience will stay with them as they graduate high school and begin their adult lives, whether they enter college, embark on a military career or join the workforce.
During the Gold Award ceremony Wronksi also noted that of the approximately 230 graduating seniors in GSHH’s 2023-2024 membership, 34 earned their Gold Award this year equaling nearly 15%. This is well above the national average of Gold Award Girl Scouts per council.
Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson serves approximately 15,000 youth and 8,000 adult Girl Scout members throughout Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Orange, Dutchess, Sullivan, and Ulster counties. At GSHH they are part of a community of girls and women looking to serve the community through individual and group service projects as they discover new skills and interests and experience new challenges.
