The Enrico Fermi Educational Fund of Yonkers provides financial assistance to graduating high school seniors with traceable Italian heritage within Yonkers and Westchester County. College scholarships are awarded to students with exceptional academic performance and inspirational commitment to the community.
The fund recently announced the appointment of Joseph A. Romano to its Board of Trustees.
Rich Poccia, Fermi co- president said, “We are so honored to have Joe Romano join our Board of Trustees. The Romano family has a rich history in Yonkers, just as Enrico Fermi – now in our 62nd year – has. The Romano family has carried on the legacy of their father, John Romano, who was one of the forefathers of Enrico Fermi. Romano said, “The Fermi core values and mission are very much aligned to my family and I know that I can help make even a bigger impact in our community. As an attorney, I see the value of education and look to this as one way to make a difference and carry on in the great wishes of my dad. I encourage others to make a difference too.”
Romano, a Yonkers-based attorney has been active in many community activities, in addition to his legal practice.
The Enrico Fermi Educational Fund of Yonkers, New York, is a nonprofit organization that began as a vision of several individuals, led by Michael Vitulli, to generate financial support for Italian-American students who reside in Yonkers. Today, additional financial support Is offered to students throughout Westchester County. This year $50,000 in scholarships will be given tostudents who demonstrate outstanding commitment to academics and their communities.
In 62 years, more than 500 scholarships totaling well over $1 million were awarded.
