Zayo Group, based in Louisville, Colo., has completed its previously announced purchase of AboveNet Inc., which provides fiber-based communications networks. The network of the combined company will have more than four and a half million miles of fiber. It will operate in 45 U.S. states and seven other countries.
Prior to the merger, both companies focused on high-bandwidth, fiber-base communications networks. AboveNet had been headquartered in White Plains.
ZColo, Zayo’s colocation business unit, will expand its offerings to new markets including Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Dallas and Seattle, effective immediately.
The network interconnection work has started and is expected to be finished in three months. Conversion to Zayo’s order-to-cash systems has begun. The first phase is expected to be finished by late August and the rest will be completed by the end of the year.
“With the addition of AboveNet”™s talent and assets, Zayo is well positioned to be the leading provider of bandwidth infrastructure solutions to the largest consumers of bandwidth in the US. With transatlantic capacity, a deep London metro network and access to major cities in Europe, we can begin to address customers needs in key international markets as well,” said Dan Caruso, president and CEO of Zayo.
“”˜Zayo”™s extensive experience in integration through its 19 previous acquisitions will help us quickly integrate the network and operations of AboveNet into a single platform. I am confident customers will see little disruption,” he said.
