Janet Hasson, the president and publisher of The Journal News Media Group, has resigned effective Friday, according to a statement from The Gannett Co., the media group’s parent company.
Hasson is leaving for a new role as president and publisher of The Providence Journal in Rhode Island, owned by GateHouse Media Inc., said Michael G. Kane, east group president for Gannett U.S. Community Publishing.
George Troyano, vice president for sales/advertising for The Journal News Media Group, will serve as interim publisher.
Hasson, 55, of Greenwich, Conn., started at the White Plains-based newspaper in the summer of 2011. She oversaw the publication’s move in West Harrison to 1133 Westchester Ave. and its transition to a digitally focused publication.
“I walk out of this place really proud of the team that’s in here and I know you’re going to keep doing really great and we’ve got a great plan in place,” Hasson told her staff, as reported by The Journal News.
Kane said he wants the new publisher to continue the strategies Hasson initiated.
The Journal News covers Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties in print and on lohud.com.
