The firearms industry generated approximately $1.245 billion in economic activity in Connecticut during 2016, according to data released by the Newtown-based National Sports Shooting Foundation (NSSF).
During 2016, 2,126 people in Connecticut worked directly for a firearm or ammunition manufacturer, 1,100 suppliers worked in some aspect of the gun industry and another 1,690 indirect jobs were connected to the industry
The NSSF reported the firearms industry”™s input into the U.S. economy grew from $49.3 billion in 2015 to $51.3 billion in 2016. More than 141,000 people were employed by the manufacturers, distributors and vendors of guns and ammunition, while another 160,000 were employed in supplier and ancillary industries.
“Our industry is proud of its strong contribution to our economy as a growing number of Americans have chosen to exercise their fundamental right to keep and bear arms and to safely enjoy the shooting sports,” said Stephen L. Sanetti, NSSF president and CEO.
