A 47-year-old West Harrison resident faces federal charges for allegedly dispensing a steroid using fraudulent prescriptions while employed as a pharmacist at stores in the lower Hudson Valley.
U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said Scott Burko was indicted recently in U.S. District Court in White Plains on 82 charges for his alleged part in a conspiracy to dispense the prescription drug Prednisone. Burko allegedly used fraudulent prescriptions issued to fictitious patients as part of a larger scheme with at least one unnamed co-conspirator to steal drugs from an unnamed company”™s pharmacies at which Burko worked in Westchester, Rockland, Orange and Dutchess counties. The scheme allegedly was carried out from at least 2000 through March 2006.
Burko surrendered to federal authorities this week and was released subject to bail conditions. The conspiracy charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 maximum fine. The drug charges each carry a maximum sentence of three years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
