With “AI” seemingly on everyone’s lips, gambling site PlayMichigan ranked the states by which were most AI-ready. New York and Connecticut were Nos. 3 and 9 respectively.
According to the site, “New York has committed over $400 million to create ‘Empire AI.’ This state-of-the-art artificial intelligence computing center in upstate New York will bring together seven of New York’s top universities to research AI focused on the public good.
“Gov. Kathy Hochul has established a policy for responsible AI use. She has also directed the Office of Information Technology Services to develop guidelines for state agencies to evaluate and use AI systems.”
PlayMichigan used a ranking system of 1 to 11 for having AI legislation that had passed or was pending. States were ranked 1 through 50 on AI searches and job postings. Behind California and Massachusetts, New York, which has an AI education policy, was first in AI legislation, ninth in AI searches and third in AI jobs for an average of 3.5. Connecticut, which has no AI education policy, was ninth in legislation, sixth in AI searches and 23rd in AI jobs for a score of 9.8, behind Washington, Texas, New Jersey and Illinois but tied with Utah. Maryland closed out the top 10.
The worst AI states? Wyoming, West Virginia, Mississippi, South Dakota and tied for fifth North Dakota and South Carolina.
