The SUNY New Paltz business-student association blended education with entertainment by participating in a recent “Test your Human Resource Knowledge” game show event.
At an annual joint chapter meeting; the SUNY New Paltz student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management, Mid-Hudson Human Resource Association and SUNY New Paltz Management Association teamed up for the game show challenge.
“The joint chapter dinner is a great way for students to interact with human resource professionals from the Hudson Valley,” said Kristin Backhaus, student chapter advisor of the SUNY New Paltz Management Association and associate professor of management at SUNY New Paltz. “The relaxed setting allows them time to get to know each other, and potentially forge ongoing relationships that can help both the students and the HR representatives.”
Students and human resource professionals sat in groups at tables, answered human-resource related questions and won prizes as the event unfolded. The students were immersed in reality-driven business situations and learned firsthand lessons from human resources professionals throughout the workshop and dinner.
The workshop served as a precursor to the 2009 Society for Human Resource Management Northeast Regional HR Games at New Jersey”™s William Paterson University in March; allowing students to practice key skills cultivated in the program.
