Orange-based Avangrid Inc (NYSE: AGR) hosted a companywide Volunteer Week this month to encourage its employees to increase their community involvement. As a result of this effort, the company’s workforce more than 5,500 hours of volunteer time benefitting 33 different nonprofit organizations in eight states including New York and Connecticut.
The volunteer events ranged from helping nonprofits stock shelves or clean their facilities to repairing books and assisting at a senior care living community. To further enhance their input, the company’s philanthropic Avangrid Foundation will make a donation to the nonprofits through its Energized for Good Program for every hour of employee volunteer time. For the Volunteer Week activities, this totals more than $82,000 in donations.
“At Avangrid, we want to create avenues for our employees to connect with and serve our communities through volunteerism,” said Pedro Azagra, Avangrid’s CEO. “So many of the positive social impacts we help create are driven by our employees. Volunteer Week is an opportunity for us to plan group volunteer and giving opportunities while also encouraging individual employees to engage their colleagues in causes that they care about.”
